Entrepreneurs Think Differently. đź’ˇ
Today, Gateway CEO welcomed Wendy Symer of WLS Consulting, and our students had the opportunity to spend time learning from someone whose career has taken her from small business to Fortune 500 companies—and ultimately to owning her own business coaching firm, where she now works with small businesses and familypreneurs.
Wendy challenged our students to think about what it really means to be an entrepreneur. After watching a 1% video by Gary Vee, students shared some of their takeaways:
đź’ˇ Entrepreneurs are outside-the-box thinkers.
đź’Ş They are willing to work hard and make the choice to go out on their own.
🕊️ Entrepreneurship can provide freedom and the opportunity to be your own boss.
❤️ You can work for a cause you believe in and turn your passion into purpose.
🎯 You have to understand your “why.”
🌱 And perhaps most importantly—life is always in progress.
Wendy also reminded students that today is the first day of the rest of your life and that the better you know yourself, the better you can work with others and help others.
Her career is a great example of that journey. From public relations and sales—including time with Robert Half and Express Employment Professionals—to teaching at McKendree, raising champion Morgan horses, and eventually stepping out on her own, Wendy has continually evolved and grown.
Today wasn't simply about entrepreneurship. It was about self-reflection, purpose, knowing who you are, and thinking about where you want to go.
Wendy spent time guiding students through questions and topics designed to help each of them look inward and consider their own path.
Because being an entrepreneur isn't just about starting a business.
It's about knowing yourself, finding your why, and having the courage to build something meaningful.
