--Behind the Scenes at Revity Credit Union --
On Tuesday, Gateway CEO students had the opportunity to step inside Revity, hosted by Lacy Able, and what a great reminder it was that business is so much more than what customers see on the surface.
During our visit to Revity, our students got to see how every role—from the first person a member encounters at the teller line to executive leadership—plays a part in the success of an organization. As shared several times, the teller is critically important to the entire organization because they have direct contact with the members.
From the teller line and member services to marketing, business development, mortgages, training and executive leadership, our students got a firsthand look at how all of the pieces work together to serve members and grow an organization.
One of the biggest takeaways? A credit union is a service organization first. Students heard about Revity’s commitment to putting members at the center of what they do—and how those everyday interactions at the teller line can have a much bigger impact than we might realize.
T
hey also learned about Revity’s growth, its history dating back to the 1940's, its connection to the communities it serves, and the importance of staying true to your story while continuing to evolve. Their lobby has a massive mural of photos that shines a light on their beginnings and where they are today.
Some genuine highlights in culture at Revity-
- Creative marketing matters - Their biggest giveaway ever included celebrating their 85th anniversary with a car giveaway!
- They always pay homage to their roots as Granite City Steel Credit Union. Even with a newer location in Edwardsville, Revity's headquarters still remain in Granite City.
- Meets clients with their needs. Offers a special 'payday' type loan with much better terms. Also offers I-10 loans for eligible members that do not qualify for traditional financing.
President/CEO John Merritt and Chief Growth and Strategy Officer Mark Dietrich also joined us during the presentation. Students loved hearing the career journey of a leader who didn’t simply start at the top. Students were reminded that careers are built through learning, taking on new challenges, developing skills and preparing yourself for the next opportunity. That may have been one of the most valuable lessons of the day. Prepare yourself for the next step—even before you know exactly what that step will be.
With John sharing his story for growth, and Lacy sharing her career from Tanning Salon management with heavy focus in Sales, to Teller to Business Development Representative, each position has built upon the next one.
A huge thank you to Lacy Able and the Revity team for opening your doors, sharing your experiences and giving our students an honest look at what it takes to build a successful organization. These site visits are one of the things that make CEO so powerful. Our students aren't just learning about business. They're getting to experience it.
