What is excellence? What is your standard of excellence compared with others? Is excellence perfection? Carol Sparks of Beckemeier LeMoine Law and Gateway CEO board member stopped in with our students to have a very meaningful conversation and open dialogue with our students as they navigate their Senior year and beyond. This was a conversation that was set up with ground rules that everyone agreed upon and the willingness to be vulnerable as we talk through the spirit of excellence and the impact it is for each and every person. This was a more intimate conversation of sharing, reflecting and pondering.
In reading the student journal entries this weekend, it is also evident that this discussion truly impacted our students in a positive way. Many of them respected the conversation and definitely allowed them to align how excellence can be prioritized in all that they do and what this definition actually means to each of them. How can they be excellent? When is it ok to know your are doing your best and perfection is not always what winning looks like? Also, failure can still exist even when there is excellence in efforts. It was a perfect pause and time of growth as students continue to embrace this first semester of learning, developing and executing on their class business plan. I look forward to watching how this mentality shift will shape each activity they engage with. Thank you Carol for having this powerful dialogue with our students! We so appreciate you.
