Shannon Hogg welcomed students to her corner of the Highland Square. Today, this corner represents a busy salon, a growing boutique and a perfect event space. Welcome to JusTeazin' Salon and Boutique and the newest event space in Highland - Townsquare Terrace. Shannon is a multi-business owner, farmers wife, mother to three adult children and someone that keeps looking for more in her future. Family is intertwined into her business success and she would not have it any other way.

Shannon began her journey after high school pursuing a teaching degree that she always dreamed of growing up, until she realized this definitely wasn't the right fit for her. She decided to pivot into Accounting. After graduating, she found a position that would help develop this field, until she knew it just wasn't what she enjoyed. Sometimes a quick phone call to mom and a brave step takes us to new places. Shannon enrolled in cosmetology school and has not looked back. After raising her three children, she opened her own salon and jumped at the opportunity when owning a building was the next step. Today, you can get a hair refresh, find a perfect gift or favorite outfit and check out the perfect space for life's celebrations. While she gets to explore her creative side daily, the accounting background has also been foundational in helping run her businesses and the family business. Here's some things that Shannon has learned along this journey:
- Don't ever be afraid to take a leap of faith. When an idea pulls at your heart strings, go for it!
- Stepping into a business comes with vision and a lot of hard work! It's all worth it though. Don't be afraid of crunch time, even if that means updates to electric, plumbing and lighting - don't stop.
- Keep going until you are proud of what you've done. Shannon has specific vision for each of the areas in her building and sometimes that requires a slumber parties to deal with a brick wall and rethinking an entire design.
- If you decide you want to restore something special in your store, do it. When you stop in the boutique, you will see beautifully restored display cases, a really cool shelving unit that can now convert into a bar in the event space and well loved tables that have become show pieces in the new event space.
- Find your team and don't be afraid to delegate. You can't be all the things to everyone, but with the right team, you can focus on the things you love while others manage other areas well.
- Finding the right business partner matters. She encourages you to own your lane and let your partner own their strengths.

If you haven't stopped by JusTeazin' Salon and Boutique or the Towsnsquare Terrace, it's worth your time. Thank you so much Shannon for investing in Gateway CEO as a Mentor, a supportive alumni family and an amazing host for our students. We appreciate you!
